Jen McCormick was introduced to UW Sports Ministry as the director for her church’s sports camp in the summer of 2021. God used that camp to change her heart towards His people. After a significant amount of prayer and some major life changes, Jen felt that God was calling her to serve UW as a full-time missionary in the fall of 2022.
Jen received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from UConn in Storrs, CT. She and her husband James married in October of 2015, and now live in eastern Tennessee with their dog and two cats.
Why did you decide to join full-time staff?
James and I felt God calling us to eastern Tennessee and made the move from Connecticut to Tennessee in July of 2022. I had been a nurse for eight years, working on a cardiac unit, as a heart transplant coordinator, and as an elementary school nurse, but wasn’t sure what God was calling me to do after we moved. As we were getting ready to move, I couldn’t shake UW and sports camp from my mind. After joining UW for their annual training in June 2022, and spending a lot of time in prayer, I am confident that this is where I am supposed to be!
What is your favorite ministry moment?
When we lived in CT, we served with our church’s middle and high school youth group for several years. During my last year there, we had the opportunity to bring some of our teens to Snow Camp in New Hampshire. I got to see that group of teens grow together, share who they really were, and become close friends. It was what we’d hoped and prayed for, and God blessed us with seeing it come to light.
What is one area of the world you would most like to visit?
Ireland and Scandinavia
What is your favorite sport team?
What do you do for fun?
I love to cook and bake, and have finally succeeded in sourdough. James and I also love to hike and camp, as well as explore the new state we now call home.
